"The Anonymous Letter"

 Part 1 of 3

This audio excerpt examines the stark contrast between Girl Scouts of the USA’s (GSUSA) outwardly ambitious 2015–2018 strategic plan—which aimed for modernization and increased membership—and the internal turmoil exposed in a 2016 whistleblower letter.

The plan focused on adapting to the 21st century through digital initiatives and diversified revenue streams.

However, the anonymous letter alleged serious misconduct, including lavish CEO spending, high executive turnover, and a toxic work environment fueled by fear and instability.

The juxtaposition of this strategic vision with such damning allegations reveals a critical failure of leadership. It raises pressing questions—not only about the plan’s true effectiveness (especially amid a continued decline in Girl Scout membership) but also about what GSUSA was withholding from its members. This is a topic we will explore in depth in future episodes.
